Meet Our Amazing Speakers:
π£οΈ Sandra Lopez Zamora
Sandra arrived in Canada at the beginning of 2018 to pursue her Ph.D. studies at the Faculty of Engineering at Western University in London, Ontario (Canada). She understands well the difficulties a newcomer faces in adapting to a new culture, and the challenges to transition from Academia to Industry.
Currently, Sandra is a Senior Manager for Decision Models in Scotiabank. Previous to this role she assisted in the Model Operations team where she supported the implementation of models and the development of tools to improve data quality and reliability. Now, she is part of a wonderful group of data scientists working on developing models for retail and small businesses in Central America and Caribbean countries. A key part of what she does is building bridges between her team and the teams located internationally. She is passionate about data science and supporting newcomers and women in tech.
In her free time, Sandra enjoys photography as part of the London Camera Club, exploring other countries and cultures, and training her favourite pets: Stella, Maggie and Luna.
π£οΈ Cecilia Chavez Garcia
Arriving from Mexico in 2017 under a fully funded Ontario Trillium Scholarship, Cecilia started her PhD in Computational Chemistry and Scientific Computing at Western University. Four years later she worked for the Registrarβs office, helping to analyze the 55,000+ applications that Western receives each year across all undergraduate programs.
Last year Cecilia joined TDβs Enterprise Data & Analytics team as a Data Scientist supporting Marketing, building models to improve the personalization of the campaigns.
Besides loving data, Cecilia loves connecting with people through her volunteering at the Latinos in Leadership community at TD, which she is helping grow by co-leading their London Chapter. In her spare time Cecilia loves reading novels, eating delicious food and taking walks with her dog Micha.
Please RSVP to secure your virtual seat. We look forward to seeing you there!
Let’s come together to celebrate, learn, and grow as a community. See you at the event!
